I could snap a scene in seconds, then speed walk to re-connect with my group, lungs burning but oddly alive. As clouds began to crawl in, shadows stretched across the balds, painting the ridges with fleeting drama. Then I saw it—an open patch where the trail curved away into endless folds of blue ridges, each ridge fading fainter and fainter into the blue/gray depths of the horizon. The path itself leading like a ribbon into infinity. The hikers parted for just a moment, and I snapped the shot.
